Published by bulgaria at 9:34 am under Borovets, bulgaria Edit This

The resort dates back to the year 1896 when it was officially opened by the mayor of Samokov. It was a preferred holiday spot also for Tsar Ferdinand whose winter residence was situated only half a kilometer away from the ski lift to Yastrebetz and still be seen preserved today. To reach it you first pass though a small picturesque park with miniature lakes and white firs, very much resembling a Swiss villa. The road turns right and you find yourself on a spacious lawn where the actual building is. Inside there is a true labyrinth of stairs, corridors and doors. Visitors can see the hunting trophies of Tsar Boris The Third and the guest rooms, each one of them equipped with a tile stove, unique in style for each room, and finaly the living room with its wood-carved ceiling and grand fireplace. When you exit the palace, you might want to go behind the building, then up some small winding steps to take a look at the lakes from a different angle.

Borovetz is equally charming in the summertime but it still the true beauty is revealed only in the winter. The resort offers exclusive conditions for the full range of winter ski sports Alpine disciplines, ski racing, ski jumps and biathlon. Borovetz has twice hosted World Cup Alpine skiing rounds, while the biathlon complex is among the best in the world.

The ski season starts in November and ends in May, with the snow cover reaching more than 1.5m high. Average January temperature is -5C. Ski runs vary on the degree of difficulty and are hence suitable for all categories of skiers beginners, advanced and proficient. Ski runs are maintained by special machines and have international marketings.

Ski schools here are among the most prestigious in Europe, with long standing tradition and international prestige. Ski-equipment is also of top quality. The ten ski-wardrobes, situated along the ski-runs and at the lift stations offer 7000 sets of equipment by renowned brands.
